Active ingredients: simvastatin, ezetimibe
Zocozet 10/10 tablet contains simvastatin 10 mg/ ezetimibe 10 mg
Zocozet 20/10 tablet contains simvastatin 20 mg/ ezetimibe 10 mg
Simvastatin works on reducing the cholesterol manufactured inside the body through inhibiting enzyme called hydroxyl methyl glutaryl CO A reductase ( HMG COA reductase)
Ezetimibe works by inhibiting absorption of excess dietary cholesterol in intestine as it inhibits the esterifcation of cholesterol.
So simvastatin and ezetimibe together have complementary action acting on endogenous and exogenous cholesterol sources in body.
Therapy with lipid-altering agents should be only one component of multiple risk factor intervention in individuals at significantly increased risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. Drug therapy is indicated as an adjunct to diet when the response to a diet restricted in saturated fat and cholesterol and other nonpharmacologic measures alone has been inadequate.
Primary Hypercholesterolemia
ZOCOZET is indicated as adjunctive therapy to diet for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol (total-C), low- density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein B (Apo B), triglycerides (TG), and non-high –density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C), and to increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in patients with primary (heterozygous familial and non-familial) hypercholesterolemia or mixed hyperlipidemia.
Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH)
ZOCOZET is indicated for the reduction of elevated total-C and (LDL-C) levels in patients with HoFH. Patients may also receive adjunctive treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis).
The recommended usual starting dose is 10 or 20 mg once a day in the evening.
Doctor will prescribe whether zocozet 10/10 or zocozet 10/20 according to the patient lipids test and LDL Goals mentioned by guidelines.
